Winter school “Culture, Regional Diversity and Social Interactions”

Winter school “Culture, Regional Diversity and Social Interactions” will be held at the FEFU campus on Russky Island (Vladivostok, Russia) from 7 till 11 December, 2015.

The organizers of the winter school are the NES Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Interactions and the FEFU Center for Asia-Pacific Studies.

Academic director of the school is Professor Shlomo Weber (New Economic School, Southern Methodist University). NES CSDSI research fellows and NES Professors Güneş Gökmen and Sergei Izmalkov present their research.

The guest speakers of the school are Theodore P. Gerber (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Jean-Philippe Platteau (Université de Namur), Hans Wiesmeth (Technische Universität Dresden), and Yuval Weber (NRU “Higher School of Economics”).

The language of the winter school is English.

The topics of the winter school lectures are:

  • Evolution of culture and institutions
  • Culture and trade
  • Migration, diversity and trade
  • Networks and regional diversity

PhD students, young faculties and research fellows from Russian and foreign universities/research institutes are invited to submit their application for the school. Please note that priority will be given to candidates from the eastern Russian regions as well as Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Mongolian universities. The application include: application form, a brief summary of the research paper for the presentation at school, and CV (in English). The package should be submitted to diversity@nes.ru and events.caps.fefu@mail.ru before November 1, 2015.

20-25 invited participants will be informed before November 10, 2015. The organizers will cover the tuition fees and meals during the school for all participants. A limited number of grants (10-15 places) covering accommodation and travel arrangements is available and will be offered to applicants on the competitive basis.
